I had a similar problem. I decided for the sake of only a couple dollars, i would just buy it again. After i clicked buy, it took me back to the home screen. A notification popped up saying I had already purchased the app and the updated version would be installed free. So in the end it was all good. Just try it. Worst case senario, you loose $2

Greetings ESX,
We don't know why you are unable to update the App over iTunes, but here are some notes that we hope will help.
All app updates should be free if you are using the same account that you originally purchased the app with.
In order to update the app, you will have to re-enter your password in iTunes.
If you go to the app page within iTunes, it usually will not indicate that it was purchased already. Instead go to your available updates page by going to Applications on the left nav, and then clicking on Check for Updates on the bottom.
In the iTunes store main page, also try to go to Account and then Purchase History. If your purchase doen't show up there on one of those pages, you will have to contact Apple.
Unfortunately we have no control over the update process or the store itself. If you have problems you have to contact and work with Apple.
